We live and work in a multicultural society where many people have different opinions, backgrounds and lifestyles. In this diverse and rich, yet sometimes confusing environment, some discussions may feel like a trap! We invite you to a workshop on having difficult conversations in the multicultural context.
For our first experimental workshop we chose to focus on Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet traditions. We invite you to share your personal story related to these traditions and have a conversation in a safe and welcoming space. Our goal is to make our attendees feel better informed, better understood and better equipped to handle conversations about difficult topics in the future.
We will use philosophy, storytelling, and empathic listening, to explore connections and opportunities for understanding.
This workshop is for everyone who:
★ Lives or works in a multicultural environment.
★ Is open to learn about different perspectives, your own, and others.
★ Wants to share their story in a safe space, or wants to listen to the story tellers to discover a world behind the stories.
★ Wants to learn more about methods that can help when talking about sensitive subjects.
Main Goals/Learning Purpose:
★ To create more understanding and compassion.
★ To learn skills in how to handle difficult/sensitive subjects.
★ To create a safe space for people to share their experiences and stories on Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet.
★ To create an opportunity for a multicultural exchange and understanding.
What NEED does the workshop address?
★ A need for a safe space to exchange stories.
★ A need to learn about different sides of the story.
★ A need to understand more about the challenges of multicultural society.
★ A need to connect with people who have a different opinion.
We hope to see you there, to share or to listen, or to just show up.
Your hosts, Annabel and Paulina
